While my heart has always beat a little faster at the sight of a Porsche 964 Turbo or the muscular profile of a ’67 Shelby Mustang, nothing quite compares to the deep-rooted loyalty I feel toward BMW. Unfortunately, I wasn’t there to pick up a brand-new M2. But that didn’t dull the excitement. Instead, I wandered across the road to another temple of BMW excellence—the BMW Museum.

If BMW Welt is the brand’s living, breathing present, the BMW Museum is its memory. Housed beneath the striking four-cylinder building, the museum is a rotating gallery of automotive milestones, both past and future. One of the first sights to greet me was an Inca Orange E12 sedan parked under a festive Christmas tree—a bittersweet reminder of my own beloved E12, long gone but never forgotten.
